A.L. Mabry: Author, Creator, Influencer

Stories, Cramps, and, Motivation

Since I’m on a bit of a roll here I figured I would pop in and give a daily update. I hope these will improve as the year goes by but for now these quick entries will have to suffice. Here’s the quick break down:

Work for OWS:

I had an hour-long phone conference with one of the authors where we discussed her annual marketing plan. We decided on some next steps she needed to make and she took lots of notes to follow up on. I think we may start having these phone conferences more often as it seems to be the best way for me to grasp where she is and where she needs me.

Work for Writing:

I added 2,000 words to Cinder Baby. I had hoped to finish it today but I’m not going to beat myself up over it. It is almost done. I am super excited. Cinder Baby will be in the 2018 OWS Fairy Tale anthology. All of the stories in this edition will be based on Cinderella. Yay!

Work for Patreon:

I was able to get my poetry reading video done and completely edited today. I really enjoyed the process though I did it a bit differently this time. I’m happy with the end result and you will be about to see it next week on my Patreon page. The poem is entitled “Sunrise,” and it is written in a form called Trijan Refrain. This was a recommendation by one of my favorite poets and authors, Robert Cano.

Work for Product Reviews:

I got all the photos done for the current reviews I need to do and will start posting those tomorrow. Look for some fun stuff on my pages!

Work for the Magic Shop:

I finished gluing the split in the handle of one of the wands. It does not affect the integrity of the wand but I wanted to make sure it would keep the shape of the hemp handle that I will be adding this week after the final clear coat has cured.

Work for My Spirit and Health:

I went to the gym tonight and got a pretty rigorous workout. I sang in the shower. And I am attempting to read through Day Two of my studies. And so it is on that note that I am going to say goodnight.

Until next time, scribe happy and stay sassy!

Two Word Tuesday: Precisely and Cinder Baby Excerpt

Today I am sharing a small peek into my Short Story, “Cinder Baby.” Which includes this week’s Two Word Tuesday word prompt precisely. You can read all the rules below my excerpt and you can join in here.

This week’s word choices are: Sharp and/or Precisely

Cindy sighed. Mother had only forced her to come to this ball in the hopes of pawning her off on the horrid Prince Stefan. Prince Charming they called him with a snicker. With Cindy married off Mother would be free of her deathbed promise to Father. Finally, Mother and her girls could return to their family’s kingdom, far beyond the reach of this ghastly patriarchy. Her stepsisters would be here tonight as well, but they had been coached on how to avoid the prince. Dru had gone so far as to cut her right cheek repeatedly, allowing the tissue to scar until it was grotesque. Annie, sweet as she was, had no need to disfigure herself.

Cindy made her way down with caution, balancing on the ridiculous glass slippers Mother’s sister, Azura, had given her. Her doting godmother. More like, her devilmother. Cindy snorted, very unladylike. Azura had used forbidden black magic to produce a carriage as well. The carriage glimmered like diamonds but Cindy could see remnants of the magic writhing at the edges.

Azura had staged whispered to Mother, “The magic will escape by midnight precisely, surely he will have her in his bed then.”

Mother nodded in agreement and Cindy wondered where “escaped” black magic went.

Resolving once again to hide in the shadows until this fiasco was over, Cindy descended the rest of the steps. Candlelight reflected from a nearby mirror and blinded her momentarily. She had barely regained her bearings when he grabbed her hand and swept her onto the dance floor.

What to do:

  1. Write in any genre – fiction, memoir, poetry, horror, mystery, fantasy, romance, YA – you get the idea.
  2. You must use one or both prompts in your story – any form, any tense, as long as it is grammatically correct. (For instance, if you’re given a noun, and can use it as an adjective by adding “ing,” or change it to an adverb with “ly,”  that is allowed.)
  3. Share the URL to your story in the comments OR, if you don’t have your own blog, share your story in the comments.
  4. Please keep your stories PG-13 or under, and be sparing with the swearing. This is a family-friendly kind of place. Please include trigger warnings where needed.

This week’s words are:

Sharp and/or Precisely

[adv] in a sudden or abrupt way; in exact terms; without vagueness.

The deadline to submit a story is midnight Monday, CST (5 a.m. Sunday, GMT)

Until next time, scribe happy and stay sassy!

Blessed be,
